Each Tuesday and Thursday, Ella's teachers send home a little note that includes what she learned today, how much she ate, if she slept, when she pooped - you know, the important facts. It also includes a "my disposition was____________" Usually this blank is filled in with "happy" or "content." (Often, Aidan's used to be filled in with "tested his boundaries")
Last week, her teachers filled-in-the-blank with "fine." What? Does that mean she was just okay? Did she just coast through the day? My suspicion was that there was something more. So, yesterday after school, I asked Teacher Kathy: "Is Ella sweet to her friends or is she, well, um, a bully?" Kathy, who loves to cuddle and love on the kids, took her time, thought a minute and then said: "She's a bully." I knew it! She's a sassy mess (I know, like her mommy) and it's time to crack down.
Tonight, she was even bullying her dad. He was sitting at the computer and she went got her little step stool. She carefully placed it next to the table and climbed up to stand next to him where she had perfect access to push the keypad and touch his screen. Matt asked her to stop, then he moved her hand, then he moved her. She kept coming back and touching the screen. She totally knew what she was doing. He warned her and then thumped her on the head (this is not our normal practice, but we're cracking down, right?) but 3 seconds after it happened (once the shock wore off) she let out a cry that hit an amazingly high decibel. Then she was fine and back to figuring out another way to get to the computer.
The funny thing was, Aidan came around the corner to scold his daddy about thumping his sister. He said crying: "If you thump me in the head, my head would pop." He wasn't even in the room, but that kid doesn't miss a thing and he sure stood up for his bully, um, baby sister.

That's a funny story. Matthew used to defend his sister when she got in trouble too. But not anymore, now he tattles on her so she will get in trouble.
Cracked me up reading that, probably b/c it reminds me of Morgan. STRONG WILLED- join the club! I feel your pain although I've never seen Ella being anything but sweet! You know how those girls are though!
I think that all kids that age can be bullies at one time or another. She is probably just "testing her boundaries" like Aidan. They had different teachers in there then, so maybe it's just the wording. They all have their moments, ya know. Don't stress. It sounds like you are doing a great job of being firm. :)
