On a beautiful spring day two weeks ago, the kids and I went out and purchased three hanging basket and plants to spruce up our back porch. The very next day, while the kids were at preschool, I swept the porch and cleaned up all the backyard toys. While I was outside, a dove kept flying into the center plant. I had a long conversation with her about how this may not be the best choice for a nest. I told her that the kids would be home and would come outside and be loud. Really, I know it sounds crazy, but I really did talk to the bird. She was undeterred, by that afternoon the nest was finished.
By that night, there was an egg! She was in a hurry - no time for plan B. In the end, I'm glad she stuck with hr original plan and built her nest in my plant. We've enjoyed learning about birds and nests and eggs.
