Let's go Fly a Kite

Yesterday was our first totally free day in FOREVER! The weather was beautiful - if not a bit warm for November 1. Aidan has been wanting to fly his kite that he got for his birthday. So - we packed up and headed to the park for attempt #1. Believe it or not there was no wind. None, zero, zip. For West Texas, this is so odd. We spent some time feeding the ducks and walking around. Then we put the kite together - and nothing still no wind. So we went to lunch, home for naps, then back out again.

Attempt #2. Finally, the wind was blowing. Aidan was so excited! His kite is a really cool airplane complete with a propeller. Ella's kite - the token you get a gift because your brother is getting a ton on his birthday - is the $1 carebears kite from Walmart. While Matt and Aidan worked on getting the airplane set-up, I snapped the string on Ella's kite and tossed it into the wind. Off it flew. Ella took the string and enjoyed the next hour or so of kite flying. No problem. It flew like a champ - even when the tails came off.

Aidan's airplane was a totally different story. We wore ourselves out trying to get that thing up in the air. We tried everything - it just didn't work. I'm sure we looked like crazy people running around the park with that crazy-heavy airplane kite. And I mean running!

Here's Ella loving her afternoon:
And poor Aidan - he was not loving it:

Sorry the kite did not work:-( Maybe it has to be hurricane force winds to get it off the ground:-) It looks really cute though. I would have loved to have video of you and Matt trying to get it off the ground though.
